Welcome!

This is a community for those who are discovering that grace is more than forgiveness, more than being real about our mess. Grace is the staggering gift of a restored heart -- a good and noble heart. You are more than you think.

On THE GOOD & NOBLE HEART Community, you can connect with others who get it: who understand that Christianity is about the heart; not about spiritual heaviness and pressure to be a better Christian. The message of Jesus is about a restored, supernaturally-good and noble heart.

Hi Fadeke -- well said: "He brought us new hearts so we now have the very nature of God.Without letting people know about the other part of graciously giving us new heart, people might receive forgiveness and get sentenced into the ''gospel of works.…

Hey Jenny -- so right about the spiritual imperialism of our missionary efforts. It's really Western hubris, that in just about all situations, we want to 'export' our cultural ideas into the world - regardless of situational context. Also, nice use…

Before now I would simply say the gospel is the good news that Jesus paid the full price for our sins.He died to give us new life. But now in addition to this I will not forget to add that Jesus died for all our sins -past,present and future and most…

Hi Jim, I teach on cross-cultural counselling, and this is a major issue: we transpose our home/church/national (etc) culture onto our preaching and what the Bible says, and assume we are right. We can see the lasting damage that occurred in Africa,…

Fix You -- so true. I'm not sure most Christians understand the full extent to which they are new creations. You also express our union with him so well. We are now part of the Royal Fellowship.

Hey Alice -- love especially what you say about an 'internal wholeness and confidence.' Not only is life in God the best theology, it's the best psychology.

Well first of all, it's really good news. It's the easiest and most natural thing in the world. What is Jesus all about? Wow. He's all about expressing the unconditional love of the Father. He's all about a free gift offer with no strings attached.…

I'm all for that, Fix You. Absolutely. I might continue on with another question and say, "beyond forgiveness, what did his glorious death, resurrection, and ascension actually accomplish for us, in us?" What are your thoughts?

Hey Alice - good questions. For me, it's both/and. We need him more than anything, and there are periods when it will seem that he is all we have. On the other had, the Trinity is a fellowship, and God said, "Let US create them in our image." For me…

Fix You -- absolutely. I better understand your point now. One of my mentors even once said, "Your calling may leave you feeling very alone." Pioneers and those launching away from the norms will often feel that way.

I understand the feeling of "it's getting old". I wonder though - do you think that this is the Lord's way of keeping our fellowship with Himself the sweetest and best thing above all else? Just pondering here...do you think that if we had the sweet…

If we don't get the Gospel right, our effect on culture will be meager, even destructive; and, we'll see little transformation in the Church.  I think this is the central issue for the Church today (whether institutional or organic).  How would you…

"Are our spiritual values cultural or biblical?"

Some of what we may think are biblically-informed perspectives of ours may in fact be more culturally-formed than biblical. This happens to everyone: whether you're comfortable in the organized church or not; whether you're a staunch defender of doctrine, or part of the grace movement. It happens to each of us.

* For example, if you were born before WWII and think it's your duty to serve Christ -- because after all, he's forgiven you and you owe him your sacrifice -- then your convictions may h… Continue

Compassion vs. weariness and doubt

Over the last couple of days I struggled with compassion. I was growing weary and wondering why should I care so much and for about 10 seconds I thought I was done with it. Then I heard this. "But Deb, I LOVE them and how will they know that if you don't?" I dropped my head down and I prayed a brief prayer. "I'm sorry Father, I know you love them. I will love them too." Just at that moment a well sprang up in me! We not only reach for Him in song and in prayer, but, He reaches for us in moments… Continue

RESTORATION IS BETTER THAN 'ACCEPTANCE' ALONE.

A Mountain Search and Rescue unit gets a call that a climber has fallen on Mt. Hood, near Portland Oregon. The climber's pick axe failed to grab when he attempted to lodge it into a unstable pocket of ice. There was nothing to stop his fall. Other climbers found the body, mangled and barel… Continue

Keeping Perspective

It's been my experience that we can be right smack dab in the center of God’s will… right in the middle of restoration when things look like they’re a mess all around us. THEN, the enemy comes to us and says, “If God’s doing such great things in your life, how come…” And he points to this broken down place and that destroyed place and this threat, and on and on and on with the subtle lie that “IF YOU WERE REALLY SERVING GOD AND IF GOD WAS REALLY MOVING IN YOU, you wouldn’t have any of these prob… Continue
